Meet Howie... Howie enlisted in the US Army in 1981. He trained at Fort Benning in Georgia, and then was sent overseas to Germany and South America. After his service he fell on hard times. Substance abuse issues, multiple marriages, and near-death experiences led him on the path of homelessness. Howie's world unraveled. He was found unresponsive on a park bench at Lynn Common. That was his rock bottom. He was placed in a long-term rehab facility, and has been sober ever since. After leaving rehab NeighborWorks Housing Solutions helped him apply to live and work at our Veteran's Homes in Marshfield. "The mere fact of knowing where I am going to eat, where I am going to sleep, where I am going to shower, as opposed to being on the streets is comforting."
